Telehealth

What is Telehealth?

One of the ways we are adapting to social distancing is with telehealth to provide teletherapy. Telehealth aims to deliver health care services and overcome geographic barriers using digital information and communication technologies.

Telehealth means being able to see your provider when you need care from the comfort of your own space. You do not need to drive to or wait in our waiting room to see your provider. Our office provides HIPAA-compliant virtual consultations for your privacy.

Frequently Asked Questions

Telehealth has become an increasingly popular way to access mental health care, offering convenience, flexibility, and privacy. However, it's important to understand that telehealth is not appropriate for all situations.

Here are some guidelines to help you determine if telehealth is right for you:

Appropriate use of telehealth for mental health:

Mild to moderate mental health conditions: Telehealth can be effective for treating a variety of mental health conditions, such as anxiety, depression, PTSD, and ADHD, especially if they are mild to moderate in severity.

Follow-up appointments: Telehealth can be a good option for follow-up appointments with your mental health provider, especially if you are doing well and don't need a face-to-face session.

Inappropriate use of telehealth for mental health:

Severe mental health conditions: If you are struggling with a severe mental health condition, such as psychosis or suicidal ideation, telehealth may not be appropriate for you. In these cases, it is important to seek in-person care from a qualified mental health professional.

Crisis situations: If you are in a crisis situation, such as if you are feeling suicidal or homicidal, you should not use telehealth. Call 911 or go to your nearest emergency room immediately.

Addiction treatment: Telehealth may not be appropriate for all forms of addiction treatment, especially if you require detoxification or medication-assisted treatment.

Children and adolescents: Telehealth may not be appropriate for all children and adolescents, especially those who are very young or who have difficulty expressing themselves.
